The great state of Texas is about to host a great stamp show. Texpex 2017 will be held Friday through Sunday (February 24–26) at the Hilton DFW Lakes Executive Conference Center, in Grapevine, not far from the Dallas-Fort Worth airport.
Parking and admission are free, as are show exhibits, seminars, and a beginners’ center. A first-day-of-issue ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Friday for a new variety of the 5-cent Grapes stamp being issued in a pane of 20 format. There will be more than 130 frames of exhibits and about 30 dealers.
APS Director of Special Projects Tom Horn will be on hand throughout the show and lead a forum about the APS Chapter Ambassador program at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The show has a theme of Railroads and the Mail in Texas, which will be featured on a commemorative show cover. Lectures for the theme include “Postal History Across the Red River” by Joe Crosby on Friday and “Texas Railroads in Philately — Searches Yield Scarce Items” by Bill Halstead on Saturday.
The show is sponsored by the Texas Philatelic Association and the Texas Postal History Society and is sanctioned as a World Series of Philately by the American Philatelic Society.
Other societies and groups on hand at booths and conducting workshops and seminars will be the APS, the United States Philatelic Classics Society, the United Postal Stationery Society, the Texas Philatelic Society, the Sawyer Chapter of the American First Day Cover Society, and the American Topical Association’s Space Unit, which will host artist and space stamp designer Chris Calle.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The conference center address is 1800 Highway 26 East, Grapevine, Texas. A full schedule of events, participants and other details can be found at the show website, www.texpex.org.
